For instance, when comparing transparent sheets, acrylic sheets exhibit superior gloss and light transmission compared to PS sheets, with finished products displaying more vibrant colours. PS sheets, however, offer average transparency and may appear speckled when viewed against light; they are also brittle and prone to breakage.
Secondly, touch: Acrylic sheets, especially cast sheets, possess a smoother, more even surface with a more comfortable tactile feel. Additionally, cast sheets are generally thicker, whereas PS sheets, predominantly produced via extrusion, tend to be thinner than acrylic sheets.
Thirdly, by burning: Neither cast nor extruded acrylic sheets emit black smoke when ignited. When burning, extruded acrylic produces a clear flame with no smoke and bubbles, forming long threads when the flame is extinguished. Cast acrylic burns without smoke, producing bubbles and a sizzling sound, leaving no threads upon extinguishing. In contrast, PS sheets produce copious amounts of thick black smoke when burning.
Fourthly, by tapping the corner of the sheet against the ground: a dull sound indicates acrylic, while a crisp sound indicates PS.
